What is a Christian?
A Christian is somebody who believes in God and seeks a relationship with God specifically through Jesus Christ. Christians believe that God placed Jesus on earth more than 2000 years ago and that he died and rose from the dead to sit at the right hand of God. It is that belief in the risen Christ that makes us Christians.  However, being a Christian is not simply a matter of intellectual assent to a set of beliefs.

It involves a way of life that seeks to know and love God through Christ and to imitate Christ in our lives, continually doing Christ's work of love, healing, peacemaking, forgiveness, justice and reconciliation in the world.

This is a very different view than some commonly held beliefs that some people have about being a Christian. The following are all statements that define what does NOT make us Christian.

It is not simply someone who attends church although most active Christians do. However, going to church will not make you a Christian.

It is also not only living a good life; there are a lot of wonderful people in the world who are not Christians.

Many also believe that because we live in a so-called "Christian country" that this by default makes us Christians.

These are all untrue. As we said, is our belief in God through Christ and our devotion to doing God's work for all people on this earth that make us true Christians.
