Ministration to the Sick/Unction |
|
This sacrament is known by a number of different names, including "Sacrament of the Sick," "Anointing," "Extreme Unction," and "Last Rites." The name "Last Rites" is not accurate, however, because this sacrament is available to anyone who is sick or desires healing in body, mind, or spirit, whether or not they are dying. Ministration to the Sick is the rite of anointing the sick with oil and/or the laying on of hands, by which God's grace is given for the healing of body, mind, and spirit. Services of healing are held within the context of the Eucharist, following a Sunday service or during visitations by the clergy to hospitals and nursing homes.
